Time is running so fast. I have the impression I just started yesterday my MA in International Tourism Management at the University of Greenwich and now I have to come up already with a topic for my dissertation...
My field of interest is special interest tourism and I have a preference for the destination Brazil. Since my future career aspiration is to work for a specialist tour operator in Europe offering Brazil tour packages for FIT or groups, I would like to focus my research on this topic. I decided to concentrate on group package tours, because I have the impression that not much research is done in this specific area. However, I am not sure yet, whether I would like to analyse the demand-side to identify who participate in group package tours to Brazil and what motivates them, or the supply-side regarding the existing offers and the process and criteria of packaging such a tour and develop an itinerary?!
What do you think? I would love to hear your opinion and am grateful for every advice and idea!
hi!
AntwortenLöschenjust saw your post on facebook... i m reading for HRM... and appreciating any possible distractions...
anyway... i think the supply side is much easier to analyse since it s easier to find... and i m saying this from a research methods point of view...
Hey!
AntwortenLöschenTo me the demand-side sounds more logical, so you can identify yourself with the custumers needs and wishes...maybe useful for your later career...Good luck!
Thanks Anca and Romy. I agree with both of you. It might probably be easier to get access to information about the supply side, but the demand side interests me more as not much is known about it. It is a challenge, but it might be helpful for my futue career aspirations.
AntwortenLöschenI decided to suggest in my proposal the approach from the demand-side. If I have difficulty to access the information, I will have to change my approach then.
Looking forward to the feedback of my research proposal and the opinion of my supervisor. I will keep you updated.
Also thanks to everyone who sent me their opinion and suggestions via email!
Hi Sara, Good topic!I agree with u, Demand-side is always more interesting. I hope you find related information. looking forward hearing more about your progress,Good luck!
AntwortenLöschenHello Sara,
AntwortenLöschenIn my opinion you should analyse the supply and demand-side because they are related to each other in their own ways.
Probably it will make it easier for you to understand what are the tour operator existing offers, what do they provide and how do they guarantee unforgettable holiday experience to Brazil for group package tours.
On the other hand, you can analyse what kind of itinerary they suggest for group package tours according to tourist expectations, motivations and special interest and try to compare in contrast the different types of group package tours (ex: family holidays, friends, groups over 60, group adventures)…
Looking forward to hear more about your Research proposal

Thank you Mara for your comment. I totally agree with you. In order to get the complete picture, it would be necessary to analyse both sides.
AntwortenLöschenI actually am curious about both and am interested to not only find out the motivation of the tourists, but also the respective responses of the tour operators. However, I think that would go beyond the scope of this master research project as the dissertation is quite limited in time and words. I will see what my supervisor will say about that as I can not really evaluate the scope at the moment.
Next week I hopefully know more.
